Animal Husbandry plays an important role for the upliftment of small/marginal farmers landless agricultural laborers and unemployed youths because this provides not only direct employment opportunity to them but also lessons pressure on agriculture as land holdings are diminishing day by day. The livestock population in the Kurukshetra district is 3.69 lacks.

SCHEMES

Through Special Livestock and Breeding Programme subsidiary occupation is provided to the poorest of the poor through the schemes of calf rearing and Piggery rearing.

 

CALF REARING SCHEME

Under the scheme calves are given feed on subsidised rate to the beneficiaries falling under the category of Small farmers, Marginal farmers and Landless Agricultural Labourers. Feed starts from the age of 3 months of the calves to 28th months or till puberation .

 

PIGGERY REARING SCHEME

For the upliftment of poorest of the society the piggery units are established. Two sows and one Boar are provided to the beneficiaries. The banks arrange loan and the department gives subsidy.
