The Shahabad Coop. Sugar Mills was registered as a Cooperative Society in 1976.  The Mills is situated on Ladwa-Shahabad road.  The letter of intent for establishment of the Sugar Mills of 1250 TCD was received on 14.7.1981 and the foundation stone of Shahabad Sugar Mills was laid on 21.8.83.  The crushing operations of plant were inaugurated on 6.2.1985.  The crushing capacity of the Mills was increased from 1250 TCD to 3500 TCD in the crushing season 1995-96.

Around Rs. 29.00 crores were spent on the expansion of the Mills and the Mills met the whole expenditure incurred on expansion by its own resources without taking loan from any Institution.  Total cumulative profit from the establishment of the Mills till the year 2005-06 is Rs. 61.02 Crores, which is an indicative of good financial position of the Mills. There is no liability of any Financial Institutions or State Govt. on the Mills.  The Mills has provided Rs.2,53,17,432.00 as Cane purchase tax to the Haryana Govt. in the past three years.

During the crushing season 2005-06 the Mills crushed 56.68 lacs qtls.of cane, thus exceeding the targets for crushing season, which is an achievement.  The Sugar recovery for the season was 10.12%.  The Mills has achieved 100% capacity utilization.  This is an achievement in itself at National level.  The Mills has fixed a target of 65 lacs qtls.of. Cane crushing for the season 2006-07.

The area of the Mills is in radius of 32 Kilometers. It spreads 16 Kms. towards Yamunanagar and 25 Kms. In other directions.  In the area of the Mills, there are three cane growers societies i.e. Radaur, Mustafa bad and Kesri, through which around 50% sugarcane is purchased by the Mills and balance cane is purchased directly from growers by the Mills.  In the last crushing season 2005-06, the area under sugarcane cultivation in the assigned area of the Mills was around 38500 acres, which has now increased to around 42000 acres for the crushing season 2006-07.

Under the sugarcane development plan the Mills is providing various facilities to its cane growers to increase the production of sugarcane.  Among the facilities, the facilities of interest free loan against the sugarcane seed for the development of high sugared varieties, interest free loan and 10% subsidy for pesticides, Hot and moist air treated sugarcane seed free of cost and subsidy @ Rs.300.00 per acre for sowing treated seed are the main.  The Mills has constructed a Kisan Rest House in its Cane Yard.  The Rest House is equipped with all facilities for its growers so that no inconvenience is caused to the growers.

Biological control laboratory has been established in the mills to provide different types of parasites for the control of different types of insects and pests of sugar cane. These cards are provided free of cost to the farmers.
